Hi,

I have some questions about sim cards in Belarus.
  • Which mobile broadband company has the best network for internet mobil (3G)? I assume that LTE is not yet avaible
  • Is it easy to buy a sim card in Belarus in order to have internet on a smartphone for a foreigner ?
  • Is-it expensive ? For example how much cost 3go?

Thanks for your upcoming answers

Velcom and MTS are supposed to have the widest area of coverage with Life:), the third operator, is lagging behind. I personally use both Velcom and MTS and have no problems although Velcom does better in countryside. Yes. LTE is not yet availible. There was a pilot project in Grodno a year ago I guess but they stopped because lack of investments.

To buy a Sim card is relaitively easy provided you have all neccessary documents with you. As far as I know there are no options to buy just pre-paid cards like "pay as you go" without presenting a valid ID. Most of tarif plans now go with certain amount of Internet traffic already included.

I do not think that mobile Internet is really expensive in this country. Smart Premier, a tarif from Velcom, gives 200 minute to all networks and 500MB of Internet traffic monthly and costs around 60 000 BYR which is approximately 5 Euro. I am not familiar with prices in other countries but it is definetely cheaper than in the UK, for example.
